Hakeem Jeffries, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has shared several opinions on social media regarding political and international issues. Jeffries succeeded Edolphus Towns in Congress and has been vocal about various matters affecting the nation.

On July 7, 2025, Jeffries criticized Republican lawmakers for their approach to disaster assistance. He stated, “Republicans spent months threatening to condition disaster assistance to devastated communities. That behavior was disgraceful. Our job is to help everyone in need.”

The following day, on July 8, 2025, Jeffries addressed the importance of preserving social welfare programs. He tweeted, “Everyone deserves to retire with grace and dignity. Hands off Social Security and Medicare.”

On July 9, 2025, Jeffries expressed concern over international relations involving Russia and the United States. He remarked on Vladimir Putin’s actions and questioned Republican responses: “Vladimir Putin continues to brutally attack Ukrainian civilians. And punk the Trump Administration. Why are Republicans bending the knee to a sworn enemy of the United States?”

Hakeem Jeffries was born in Brooklyn in 1970 and currently resides there. He graduated from Binghamton University with a BA in 1992 and earned his JD from New York University in 1997.
