Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, recently used his social media platform to address key issues facing Democrats and criticize Republican policy positions.
On August 14, 2025, Jeffries posted: “What do we fight for as Democrats? Strong Floor. No Ceiling.”
The following day, on August 15, he criticized Republican proposals regarding Social Security in a tweet: “Republicans want to privatize Social Security. Not on our watch. #SaveSocialSecurity”
Later the same day, Jeffries referenced former President Donald Trump’s actions related to the war in Ukraine and the January 6 Capitol attack: “Donald Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine on day one. Instead. He pardoned hundreds of violent felons who brutally beat police officers while attacking the Capitol.”
Jeffries has represented Brooklyn-based New York’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Edolphus Towns in 2013. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born and residing in Brooklyn, Jeffries holds degrees from Binghamton University (BA) and New York University (JD).
