Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, recently addressed healthcare and local leadership transitions in a series of posts on his social media account.
On December 31, 2025, Jeffries posted about the expiration of Affordable Care Act tax credits, stating: “The Affordable Care Act tax credits expire at midnight. Millions of everyday Americans will lose their healthcare coverage. Republicans don’t give a damn.”
The following day, January 1, 2026, he extended well wishes for the new year with the message: “Happy New Year!!! May God bless and watch over our country in 2026. And beyond.”
On January 2, 2026, Jeffries congratulated Zohran Mamdani on becoming mayor of New York City: “Congratulations @NYCMayor Zohran Mamdani. Godspeed as you take the reins of leadership in the greatest City in the world.”
Jeffries has served as a member of Congress for New York’s 8th District since succeeding Edolphus Towns in 2013. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970 and currently residing there, Jeffries earned his BA from Binghamton University and a JD from New York University.
