Grace Meng, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 6th district, shared several updates and reflections through her social media account on July 2, 2025. Her posts touched on significant legislative developments and historical commemorations.

On July 2, Meng expressed her concern over a recent legislative decision by Senate Republicans. “UPDATE: Senate Republicans passed a bill that will cut $1.1 trillion in Medicaid funding for millions of Americans,” she wrote. She highlighted the potential consequences of such cuts, stating that “people will lose health care and hospitals will close,” attributing these actions to efforts to fund tax cuts benefiting billionaires. Meng indicated her intention to return to Washington to address this issue.

Later that day, Meng reflected on the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. “61 years ago today, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law,” she noted, emphasizing its role in banning discrimination based on race, color, religion, or sex. While acknowledging progress made since then, she remarked that “civil rights still remain under attack” and stressed the importance of continuing the fight for equality.

In another update from Washington D.C., Meng reiterated her opposition to a budget proposal put forth by the GOP. “UPDATE: I’m in DC today to vote NO on the GOP’s big ugly bill,” she stated. She criticized the budget for including “devastating cuts to Medicaid” and “increases in energy bills,” arguing it would negatively impact families in Queens. Meng called for support in opposing the bill, stating they only need four Republican votes to defeat it.

Grace Meng has served as a congresswoman since replacing Gary Ackerman in 2013 and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975, she is an alumna of both the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
