Grace Meng, a U.S. Congress member representing New York’s 6th district since 2013, shared her thoughts on social media over the weekend, covering topics from personal reflections to political commentary.

On May 11, Meng expressed her affection for her family and extended warm wishes to mothers in Queens and beyond. She wrote “Being a mom to my boys, Tyler & Brandon, is easily my favorite job. Wishing a Happy #MothersDay to all the wonderful moms in Queens & beyond.”

Later that day, Meng addressed issues concerning federal workers during Public Service Recognition Week. In her post, she highlighted concerns about potential job losses under current administrative policies. She stated “During Public Service Recognition Week, I joined @AFGENational to honor our dedicated federal workers. Right now, federal workers are under attack as the Administration attempts to fire thousands more of them all across the nation.”

The following day on May 12, Meng criticized fiscal policies she believes prioritize tax cuts for billionaires at the expense of public services. Referring humorously to a beloved children’s character, she remarked “They fired Elmo to pay for tax cuts that only benefit billionaires? I think my GOP colleagues could use a lesson in empathy. One more thing: Elmo, we’ll miss you too.”

Meng has been an active political figure since replacing Gary Ackerman in Congress in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens, she holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
