U.S. Representative Grace Meng, who serves New York’s 6th district in Congress, shared updates on community engagement and voting rights through a series of posts on her social media account this week.
On August 6, Meng highlighted her participation in an annual event aimed at fostering safer neighborhoods: “It is always great to take part in National Night Out Against Crime in Queens. Yesterday, my team and I attended local events held by precincts serving my congressional district. Thank you to all our local precincts for working to keep our communities safe. @NYPD104Pct”.
Later that day, Meng marked a milestone in U.S. civil rights history, posting: “Today, we mark 60 years since the Voting Rights Act was signed into law to protect the sacred right to vote. But our fight continues, especially following efforts to roll back the clock on the progress we’ve made. We must ensure that all Americans can make their voices heard at”.
On August 7, Meng expressed appreciation for cultural diversity and local contributions: “I had a wonderful time at the summer barbecue held by the Jamaica Bangladesh Friends Society in Fresh Meadows. I thank our Bangladeshi American community for the contributions it continues to make to New York and the nation.”
Meng has represented New York’s 6th District since 2013 after succeeding Gary Ackerman; prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 through 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens, Meng holds degrees from both the University of Michigan (BA) and Yeshiva University (JD).
