Grace Meng reiterates opposition to Con Edison rate hikes; addresses constituent concerns

U.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng, who represents New York’s 6th district, posted a series of updates on social media addressing local utility rate hikes and expressing support for constituents affected by personal tragedy.

On August 15, 2025, Meng reiterated her opposition to proposed increases in electricity and gas rates by Con Edison: “I continue to oppose the double-digit rate hike that Con Edison wants to implement in Queens and across our region. I am again calling on the New York State De­part­ment of Pub­lic Ser­vice to reject the utility’s push for higher electric and gas prices. Queens residents”.

Two days later, Meng provided an update regarding outreach efforts following a family-related incident: “My team has been in contact with those close to the family and we are seeking more details. @CMShekarK @NYAssemblyCruz” (August 16, 2025).

On August 17, she expressed concern for one of her constituents: “I have been in touch with my constituent, Rabbi Nisanov, and my heart continues to ache for him and his family. I’m keeping them in my prayers during this painful time and wish Aviva a full and speedy recovery.”

Meng has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 6th District since replacing Gary Ackerman in 2013. She previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 2009 through 2012. Born in New York City in 1975, Meng resides in Queens—where she is directly engaged with issues affecting her community—and holds degrees from the University of Michigan (BA) and Yeshiva University (JD).
