Grace Meng, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 6th district since 2013, shared her views on critical social issues through a series of posts on April 3, 2025. Her tweets highlight concerns about federal food assistance policies, import tariffs, and funding for local food pantries.
On April 3, 2025, Meng addressed a concern about the limitations of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in a post stating, “It’s ridiculous that people who rely on SNAP can’t use it to buy a hot meal, but they can buy the same meal frozen. My Hot Foods Act can change this.” Her remarks were directed towards increasing the flexibility of SNAP benefits, with a mention of public personality Jon Stewart and The Daily Show.
That same day, Meng expressed criticism towards the Administration’s trade policies, asserting in a tweet that, “Make no mistake, consumers will pay the price for high tariffs. The Administration has yet to take a single action to lower costs on basic needs, and now we’ll only see them rise. This trade war is reckless & hurts hardworking families the most.”
Meng also highlighted the issue of funding cuts for food pantries in New York City. On April 3, 2025, she tweeted, “Withholding funding for food pantries = stealing from hungry families. I wrote a letter to @SecNoem urging her to restore funding for food pantries in Queens & NYC that rely on @FEMA grants. We cannot let New Yorkers go hungry.” This statement underscores her advocacy for maintaining essential services for vulnerable populations.
