U.S. Representative Grace Meng, who has represented New York’s 6th district in Congress since 2013, announced on January 9, 2026, a series of legislative developments and statements regarding recent House actions and community safety.
In a post dated January 9, 2026, Meng stated: “BIG NEWS: The House voted to extend ACA tax credits for years! Democrats fought for months to make this happen and 17 Republicans joined us to pass it. Now it’s time for the Senate to deliver this bill to the President’s desk.”
Later that day, she addressed further legislative activity: “The House passed three major appropriations bills today — and Democrats removed all 140 harmful GOP policy riders. These riders would’ve weakened background checks, undercounted the Census, cut clean energy funding, and rolled back efforts to keep our air and water clean.”
Meng also commented on local public safety concerns in a tweet posted at 03:28 UTC: “Thank you to the @NYPD107Pct for keeping our community safe. Publicly and proudly declaring support for Hamas is vile antisemitism meant to intimidate the Jewish community. I strongly condemn it and stand against antisemitism, terrorism, and all forms of hate.”
Grace Meng was born in New York City in 1975 and currently resides in Queens. She previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012 before joining Congress. Meng holds a BA from the University of Michigan (1997) and a JD from Yeshiva University (2002).
