Grace Meng, U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 6th district and a resident of Queens, recently shared updates on social media regarding community issues and local events.
On July 24, 2025, Meng marked Disability Pride Month with a statement emphasizing her commitment to accessibility in Queens. She wrote, “July is Disability Pride Month! In Queens, making our public buildings & transit stations more accessible has always been a priority for me. I’m proud to stand up for people with disabilities as we continue the fight for equality & accessibility across our community.”
The following day, July 25, Meng addressed the death of a local firefighter in a message of condolence. She posted, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of @FDNY Firefighter Matthew Goicochea – one of New York’s bravest. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire FDNY as they mourn this tremendous loss.”
Later that same day, Meng alerted residents to resources available during extreme heat conditions. She stated, “It’s hot out there, Queens! If you’re stuck in the heat, cooling centers are open. Find one near you https://t.co/nX7tKPfAV6”
Meng has represented New York’s 6th District in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Gary Ackerman and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens, she holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
