On June 5, 2025, Meng addressed significant federal funding cuts at the National Weather Service (NWS) and raised alarms about their impact amid hurricane season. Noting staffing shortages that could affect communities in Queens and nationwide adversely during this critical period she remarked “It’s gotten so bad that meteorologists themselves are speaking out on live TV.”
