Grace Meng, a U.S. Congress member representing New York’s 6th district, has recently addressed several pressing issues through her social media posts. Meng, who succeeded Gary Ackerman in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly, has been vocal about the impact of proposed government cuts and incidents of hate crimes.
On March 11, 2025, Grace Meng expressed concerns over potential reductions to key welfare programs. She stated that “Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, & SNAP are a lifeline for millions of Americans. Cutting these programs will be devastating for families.” She further criticized the government’s funding bill on the House floor as detrimental to various sectors including law enforcement and NOAA.
The following day, March 12, 2025, Meng highlighted recent attacks on the BAPS community. In her statement she noted that “The BAPS community has been the target of multiple attacks in recent months.” She condemned these acts as unacceptable and urged continuous efforts against violence and discrimination.
Later on March 12, Meng paid tribute to Dr. Hazel Dukes for her contributions to equality and civil rights. Meng honored Dr. Dukes on the House floor saying “the legacy that Dr. Hazel Dukes left behind will inspire generations of women, girls, & advocates across New York State.” She acknowledged Dr. Dukes’ significant impact within the state.
