U.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng, who represents New York’s 6th district, addressed several recent issues in a series of tweets posted on July 29, 2025. Her statements covered topics ranging from violence in Manhattan to federal food assistance policies and concerns about NOAA leadership.

On July 29, Meng commented on a recent shooting incident in Manhattan. She stated, “I am praying for the families & loved ones of those tragically shot in Manhattan, including an off duty NYPD officer. There is no place for this unthinkable violence in our city. I am grateful for the first responders & law enforcement at the scene. My team & I are continuing to” (posted at 01:13 UTC).

Later that day, Meng highlighted policy changes following severe flooding in Texas and advocated for broader reforms to federal food assistance programs. In her tweet she wrote, “In response to historic flooding, Texas Gov. Gregg Abbot and USDA Secretary Rollins are allowing Texans to use their SNAP benefits to buy hot foods. This should be a permanent policy nationwide. My bipartisan Hot Foods Act would make this possible for everyone who relies on SNAP” (posted at 13:56 UTC).

Meng also expressed concern regarding personnel changes within NOAA, stating, “It is highly concerning to hear that Dr. Stephen Volz has been put on administrative leave. As the Assistant Administrator for NOAA’s Satellite and Information Service, Dr. Volz has been a steady hand at ensuring that U.S. weather satellites continue to improve weather” (posted at 15:49 UTC).

Meng has represented New York’s 6th District since 2013 after succeeding Gary Ackerman and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens, Meng holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
