Grace Meng, U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 6th district and resident of Queens, addressed recent events and policy issues in a series of posts on X between August 22 and August 23, 2025.

On August 22, Meng commented on an incident involving violence in Queens. She wrote, “Violence like this has no place in Queens. As the investigation into this incident continues, my thoughts are with the detective injured in this senseless shooting. I am grateful to the law enforcement & first responders at the scene who apprehended the suspect & continue to” (August 22, 2025).

Later that day, Meng criticized current trade policies under the administration, stating: “This Administration promised to bring prices down, but the reckless tariffs are increasing costs—and we have the data to prove it. Our trade policy shouldn’t make it harder to put food on the table or buy essential goods.” (August 22, 2025).

On August 23, Meng drew attention to Korean American families separated by events following the Korean War: “Thousands of Korean Americans have been separated from their loved ones in North Korea since the Korean War. This is a deep source of pain for families that have been waiting to reunite for decades. Ahead of South Korean President Lee’s visit next week, @maziehirono,” (August 23, 2025).

Meng has represented New York’s 6th District in Congress since replacing Gary Ackerman in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born and raised in New York City and currently residing in Queens, she holds degrees from both the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
