Grace Meng addresses immigration policy and weather agency accountability

Grace Meng, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 6th district, recently shared her views on several pressing issues via social media. Meng has been serving in Congress since 2013 after replacing Gary Ackerman and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012.

On June 8, Meng expressed her support for SEIU leaders and workers across the nation following an incident involving SEIU California President David Huerta. In a tweet, she stated, “I stand with SEIU leaders and workers nationwide in demanding the immediate release of SEIU California President David Huerta, who was injured and detained during this weekend’s ICE raids. Mr. Huerta has committed no crime. The Administration’s actions are deeply troubling and”.

In another post on June 9, Meng criticized Secretary Lutnick’s statements regarding the operations of the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She remarked, “Secretary Lutnick claims that @NWS & @NOAA are operating at full force – but the stories we are hearing on the ground are much different. As hurricane season arrives, he needs to address discrepancies in staffing cuts & hold himself accountable for ensuring that EVERY community”.

Additionally, on June 9, Meng celebrated Pride Month with her constituents in Queens. She conveyed her message of support by tweeting, “Happy Pride, Queens! This month and every month, let’s stand with our LGBTQ+ neighbors and celebrate all that they contribute to our community. As a member of the @EqualityCaucus, I am proud to continue the fight for equality, justice, & acceptance. We’re not going back”.

Grace Meng was born in New York City in 1975 and currently resides in Queens. She holds a BA from the University of Michigan and a JD from Yeshiva University.
