Grace Meng, U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 6th district since 2013, recently addressed constituents on social media about upcoming weather concerns, voting rights, and food assistance legislation.
On August 20, Meng warned residents about the approaching hurricane season: “The first hurricane of the season is upon us, with weather impacts possible along the east coast this week. While it isn’t expected to make landfall in NYC, be sure to monitor weather alerts and updates from local officials.” (August 20, 2025)
Later that day, she commented on voting by mail: “Voting by mail has been and always will be a safe and secure way to cast your ballot. It is essential to our democracy. Any attempt to restrict it is an attack on our voting rights—and I’ll always stand up against efforts that make it harder for Americans to vote.” (August 20, 2025)
On August 21, Meng highlighted bipartisan support for her proposed Hot Foods Act: “My bipartisan Hot Foods Act has 83 supporters in Congress. Democrats and Republicans increasingly agree: Americans should be able to use their SNAP benefits to buy hot and prepared foods, like rotisserie chicken. Let’s make it federal law!” (August 21, 2025)
Meng has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Gary Ackerman in 2013 and previously represented her community in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens at age 47, Meng holds degrees from the University of Michigan (BA) and Yeshiva University (JD).
