U.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng, representing New York’s 6th district, posted a series of tweets on January 9, 2026, addressing issues ranging from gun violence to early childhood education and the cost of utility bills.
In her first tweet, Meng marked the fifteenth anniversary of the shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords in Arizona: “15 years ago this week, Rep. Gabby Giffords was shot while visiting a supermarket in Arizona. She has been fighting every day since to end the gun violence epidemic our nation is experiencing.
Her resilience, leadership, and commitment to keeping our communities safe continues https://t.co/sEfwTxZWMS” (January 9, 2026).
Later that day, Meng highlighted the importance of early childhood education following a visit to Mosaic Pre-K Center in Corona: “Early childhood education lays the groundwork for lifelong success. I visited Mosaic Pre-K Center in Corona where I met with @CSAFollows leaders, Chancellors Samuels, Superintendent Rivers, and Principal Tekverk to discuss how the school’s hands-on learning environment is helping https://t.co/0uOhWx0BtS” (January 9, 2026).
Addressing economic concerns from her constituents later that evening, Meng wrote: “I hear from constituents like Christine all the time — utility bills are too damn high!
Democrats have a plan to lower energy bills and hold utility companies accountable for rate hikes. It’s time for Republicans to work with us. Enough is enough. https://t.co/xu8scmcqWe” (January 9, 2026).
Meng has represented New York’s 6th district in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Gary Ackerman. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens at age 47, Meng holds degrees from both the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
