U.S. Representative Grace Meng, who serves New York’s 6th district, has recently addressed several policy issues through her social media posts, focusing on food safety, the affordability of school supplies, and funding for public broadcasting stations.
On August 24, 2025, Meng announced new legislation aimed at banning certain food additives: “I introduced my Ban Harmful Food Dyes Act to end the use of dangerous dyes and petroleum-based additives that have no place in our food. The following day, she commented on rising back-to-school costs: “Every family should be able to afford to send their kids back to school with everything they need. Later that same day, Meng advocated for continued support for public broadcasting: “Public broadcasting stations are essential for many communities across America. We must work together to fund these stations and protect them from harmful cuts.” (August 25, 2025).
Meng has represented New York’s 6th district in Congress since replacing Gary Ackerman in 2013. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens, Meng holds a BA from the University of Michigan and a JD from Yeshiva University.
