U.S. Representative Grace Meng, who has represented New York’s 6th district since 2013, recently posted a series of messages on social media highlighting economic challenges, food insecurity, and student needs in Queens.
On September 5, Meng addressed local economic issues, stating: “Jobs Unemployment Cost of Living Hardworking families in Queens deserve an economy that works for them, not the wealthy & well-connected.” (posted September 5, 2025).
Later the same day, she focused on the importance of food banks and potential threats to food assistance programs: “Food banks are essential for families in Queens & nationwide—especially as recent GOP cuts threaten food assistance for thousands. On #NationalFoodBankDay, I’m thankful for NYC’s food banks that work tirelessly to keep our communities fed. With federal funding at risk, I urge” (posted September 5, 2025).
On September 6, Meng highlighted concerns about students missing class due to lack of access to period products and advocated for her proposed legislation: “Back-to-school shouldn’t mean stress over basic needs. Too many students miss class due to a lack of period products. My Menstrual Equity for All Act would ensure that ALL students have access to free period products in schools. Congress must act now and pass this bill so no” (posted September 6, 2025).
Meng was born in New York City in 1975 and currently resides in Queens. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Yeshiva University. Before joining Congress in 2013 after succeeding Gary Ackerman, she served in the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012.
