Grace Meng, current U.S. Congress representative for New York’s 6th district, expressed concern on social media over recent issues affecting vital programs and services. A string of tweets from Meng addressed critical problems, including healthcare for firefighters, Social Security office accessibility, and budgetary cuts impacting NASA.

On May 2, 2025, Meng criticized policy changes affecting healthcare for firefighters, expressing that “Denying care to firefighters with cancer is appalling. The Administration’s cuts to the World Trade Center Health Program are already putting our first responders’ lives at risk.” She urged the Administration to reverse these cuts and ensure that all qualified individuals receive necessary care.

In another post on the same day, Meng expressed her apprehension over potential closures of Social Security offices that serve her constituents. She stated, “Social Security is a lifeline for thousands of seniors in Queens & reports that local offices could be shut down are deeply concerning.” Meng highlighted the importance of uninterrupted services and access to benefits for her district’s residents.

Additionally, Meng voiced her disapproval of significant proposed budget cuts to NASA, stating “Massive cuts to @NASA in the President’s proposed budget are shocking – the largest in American history.” She emphasized the negative impact these cuts could have on NASA’s ongoing research and education efforts and the potential loss of funding for scientific endeavors.

Grace Meng has represented New York’s 6th District since 2013, following her service in the New York State Assembly. Born in New York City, Meng holds degrees from prestigious institutions including the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
