Grace Meng addresses Bayside flooding response and urges residents to sign up for alerts

U.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng, who represents New York’s 6th district, used her social media platform to address recent flooding in Queens and provide information on safety resources for residents.

On July 31, 2025, Meng encouraged the public to sign up for local emergency alerts: “To receive free alerts and updates about flooding and other hazardous weather, sign up for @NotifyNYC. https://t.co/9LrqjtzsmT”.

Later that evening, she reported from Bayside after severe rainfall caused significant disruptions: “This evening, I’m surveying the flooding in Bayside which was hit hard by today’s rainfall. At the Bayside LIRR station, the tracks are flooded out, and passengers had to be rescued from the train. It is unacceptable that Queens is once again forced to bear the brunt of intense https://t.co/MsPo6d9OFr” (August 1, 2025).

The following morning, Meng joined Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials at the affected site: “Joining @MTA Chairman-CEO Janno Lieber and @LIRR President Rob Free this morning at the Bayside LIRR Station after the station’s tracks got flooded out last night. Thank you to our first responders who rescued constituents from the train yesterday, and all the MTA and LIRR https://t.co/fGeXwQFAAP” (August 1, 2025).

Grace Meng has served in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Gary Ackerman. Before her tenure in Washington D.C., she was a member of the New York State Assembly from 2009 to 2012. Born in New York City in 1975 and currently residing in Queens, Meng holds degrees from both the University of Michigan and Yeshiva University.
