Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton left the team’s 12-4 victory over the Astros with right lower leg tightness on April 25. Stanton exited during the sixth inning after reaching second base following an RBI single that extended the Yankees’ lead.

The incident occurred when Stanton, after his hit, was advancing on a line drive by J.C. Escarra. As Houston’s Dustin Harris attempted to field the ball near the left-field wall, Stanton waited between second and third before moving forward. He was then replaced by pinch-runner Randal Grichuk.

“Just some tightness in his calf,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said postgame in regard to Stanton. “Hopefully, we got ahead of it. We’ll just see where he’s at [Saturday].”

Boone said that Stanton signaled him about feeling discomfort once he reached second base after Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s walk. “He just motioned to me when he was on [second] base,” Boone said, “and I don’t think he wanted to push it.”

Stanton has had injury challenges during his nine years with the Yankees and played only 77 games last season. This year, however, he has missed only two of New York’s first 26 games and is currently batting .256 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.

The team will monitor Stanton’s condition as they await further updates regarding his availability for upcoming games.
