Columbia men’s basketball alumnus Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa has signed a professional contract with the Mexico City Capitanes, a team in the NBA G League. Rubio De La Rosa, who graduated in 2025, played for Columbia from 2021 to 2025 and appeared in 100 games.

During his time at Columbia, Rubio De La Rosa scored 1,414 points, placing him eighth on the school’s all-time scoring list. He also ranks second in program history for three-pointers made with 230 and is third in free throw percentage at .843.

In the 2024-25 season, he scored double figures in 17 of 20 games. His performance earned him recognition as a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award by CollegeInsider.com. He was selected to the NABC Second Team All-North Atlantic District and named to the All-Met Division I Third Team.

Rubio De La Rosa received several weekly honors during his final season. These included being named Ivy League Player of the Week three times, Lou Henson National Player of the Week twice, USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week, and Dick Vitale National Player of the Week. He was also on the Lou Henson Award Early-Season Watch List.

A notable highlight came on November 23 against Stony Brook when Rubio De La Rosa scored a career-high 37 points. This moved him to eleventh place on Columbia’s all-time scoring list at that time. In that game, he set a Levien Gym record with nine three-pointers and tied the gym record for points scored by a Lion.

The Mexico City Capitanes will start their season on November 8 against the Memphis Hustle in Southaven, Mississippi.
