In a course led by Gallatin Clinical Assistant Professor Lucy Thurber, students are introduced to the environment of a television writers room. The class includes analysis of teleplays from pilot episodes such as Severance, The Sopranos, and Modern Family. Thurber, who has experience writing for TV and film as well as being an award-winning playwright, guides students through key aspects of the profession. Students learn how to pitch ideas, contribute collaboratively at the board, and take on responsibilities similar to those of showrunners.

NYU News attended one of these sessions to observe how students engage with the creative process in this setting.
