FOIA Request to Cuny Graduate School And University Center regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.
The NYC Gazette has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Cuny Graduate School And University Center. The request seeks access to a complete list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 academic semester. This includes syllabi for courses across all departments, schools, and colleges, regardless of whether they were conducted in-person, online, or in hybrid formats.
In addition to the syllabi themselves, the request asks for relevant metadata associated with each course. This includes the course title and number, instructor name, department or academic unit, and the course delivery format (online/in-person/hybrid).
The request was made under the New York Freedom of Information Law and emphasizes the role of media in providing transparency and holding public institutions accountable. The NYC Gazette has also requested a fee waiver as a media organization involved in disseminating information to the public.
This request is part of an effort by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA requests. More information about this coalition can be found on their website at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.
We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
