FOIA Request to CUNY Brooklyn College regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to CUNY Brooklyn College by the NYC Gazette, seeking access to a comprehensive list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 semester. The request aims to obtain syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges within the institution, regardless of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or through hybrid formats.

The requested information includes not only the syllabi themselves but also relevant metadata such as course titles and numbers, instructor names, department or academic unit affiliations, and details about the course delivery format. The request underscores the importance of accessing public records to ensure transparency and accountability within public institutions.

The NYC Gazette emphasized its role in providing news coverage on local governmental affairs and highlighted its eligibility for a fee waiver due to its status as a media organization. Additionally, the requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, an organization dedicated to investigating governmental agencies through FOIA requests.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
