The Metropolitan Museum of Art houses the Jefferson R. Burdick collection, which includes one of the most distinguished collections of historical baseball cards globally. In 1947, Jefferson R. Burdick, an electrician from Syracuse, New York, began donating his extensive collection to the museum. This donation included over 300,000 trade cards, postcards, and posters, with more than 30,000 baseball cards dating back to the 1880s.
The current exhibition at The Met showcases over one hundred cards from the nineteenth century to the 1950s. These cards were produced using various printing techniques and styles and feature legends of baseball from a bygone era.
