Episcopal Health Services (EHS) has announced the upcoming opening of a new Labor and Delivery Suite, which is set to be completed this summer. This new unit aims to enhance access to maternal care for families in the Rockaway Peninsula, the Five Towns, and surrounding areas.

Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, Chief Executive Officer of EHS, stated that the development of this suite was driven by community feedback gathered through their Community Health Needs Assessment. “For more than a decade, we have been focused on enhancing and expanding access to women’s health services across the Rockaways,” Morrish said. He emphasized that the new suite is part of EHS’s strategic plan and was made possible through government support and private donations.

The facility will improve the birthing experience by allowing mothers to stay in one room throughout their visit. Jacqueline Marecheau, MD, FACOG, Chairperson of EHS’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, remarked on the significance of this project: “This is more than just a new unit; it’s a reflection of how deeply we value the women and families who entrust us with their care.”

Karen Paige, MBA, RN, CPHQ, CPPS, CPXP, OCN, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at EHS highlighted that “This Labor and Delivery Suite brings best-in-class, patient-centered care to the communities we serve.” She noted that modernizing facilities with dignity and compassion is central to EHS’s mission.

The suite includes six private rooms designed for rooming-in with newborns. It also features advanced cesarean operating rooms along with dedicated recovery and triage spaces.

While construction continues on this new suite, EHS has renovated its existing Labor and Delivery unit on Tower 7 to improve privacy and comfort for expectant mothers. These efforts are part of EHS’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art care environments.
