Episcopal Health Services (EHS) has opened the EHS Cancer Center at the Walsh Ambulatory Pavilion in Far Rockaway, New York. The new facility spans more than 50,000 square feet across five floors and is located directly across from St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.
The cancer center offers expanded access to comprehensive cancer care for residents of the Rockaway Peninsula, Five Towns, South Nassau, and surrounding areas. Medical and radiation oncology services are now available at the Walsh Ambulatory Pavilion. Surgical oncology services continue to be provided at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, creating a coordinated care network within the EHS campus. This opening marks the return of radiation oncology services to the Rockaway Peninsula after more than ten years.
Donald Morrish, MD, MMM, President and Chief Executive Officer of EHS stated: “The opening of the EHS Cancer Center represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide high-quality, comprehensive cancer care for the communities we serve. By investing in advanced technology, new facilities, and expert physicians, we are strengthening our ability to diagnose, treat, and support patients through every phase of their cancer journey.”
At the new pavilion, patients have access to medical oncology, radiation oncology, hematology, immunotherapy treatments, clinical trials participation opportunities, and a dedicated cancer navigation program. These services are supported by advanced diagnostic tools such as a PET/CT scanner for precise imaging and a TrueBeam linear accelerator for targeted radiation therapy. There is also an infusion therapy suite designed with patient comfort in mind.
Supportive care offerings include social work services, pastoral support options for spiritual needs, inpatient physical rehabilitation programs if required during treatment or recovery periods; specialty pharmacy access; and survivorship resources that address both medical outcomes as well as emotional wellbeing.
Marc Warshawsky, MD, Chief of Hematology and Oncology at EHS said: “A cancer diagnosis affects every part of a patient’s life, not just their health. This Cancer Center allows us to deliver advanced, coordinated care locally while surrounding patients with the support services they need. Our goal is to simplify the care experience, improve access and provide a more integrated treatment journey.”
Mark Ashamalla, MD Chief of Radiation Oncology at EHS added: “The addition of a TrueBeam linear accelerator and on-site imaging allows us to deliver highly precise effective treatment while minimizing disruption to patients’ daily lives. This expansion strengthens our ability to provide timely care and improves continuity throughout the treatment process.”
The EHS Cancer Center is currently the first specialty service launched at Walsh Ambulatory Pavilion; other outpatient clinical offerings are expected beginning March 2026.
EHS serves diverse communities on Queens’ Rockaway Peninsula with emergency and ambulatory healthcare regardless of patients’ financial circumstances or faith background.
