The Columbia archery team held the CU Invitational at the Columbia Archery Training Center on Saturday. The competition, initially planned for both Saturday and Sunday, was reduced to one day after a blizzard led to the cancellation of Sunday’s events in New York City.

In the Recurve Women’s Division, sophomore Alena Lipscomb secured first place among seven competitors. Lipscomb achieved 42 perfect 10s out of 60 arrows and added 15 more shots scoring 9 points each, finishing with a total of 579 points. Senior Lillian Han finished second with a score of 561, while junior Michelle Ahn placed third with 548.

Senior Giselle DeSousa won gold in the Compound Women’s Division, which included five participants. DeSousa scored perfect 10s on 39 arrows and hit scores of nine with another 21 arrows, totaling 579 points. She narrowly surpassed sophomore Briana Moore, who finished with a score of 571. First-year Cheryl Wong earned bronze with a score of 566.

Columbia’s archery team will next compete at the USA Archery Indoor Nationals this coming weekend at the Harrisonburg regional site in Virginia.
