The City University of New York (CUNY) is set to host voters across 14 of its campuses for early voting and Primary Day, in anticipation of the June 24 Primary Election. Early voting will be available from June 14 to June 22 at ten CUNY locations, while six sites will operate on Primary Election Day.
CUNY has also launched an educational initiative featuring videos by faculty members to explain ranked choice voting and emphasize civic engagement. “We strongly urge CUNY students to be engaged and make their voices heard in this upcoming election season,” stated CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos RodrÃguez. He emphasized the importance of civic participation in shaping New York City’s future.
The video series includes contributions from political scientist Helen Chang, Susan Kang of John Jay College, James Vacca from Queens College, and Gail Lewis of Queensborough Community College. These experts aim to provide insights into the city’s ranked choice voting system.
Voters can identify their designated polling sites using the NYC Board of Elections’ Find My Poll Site tool. Those in line when polls close are entitled to vote.
Early voting locations include Brooklyn College, New York City College of Technology, Baruch College, Borough of Manhattan Community College, The City College of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, LaGuardia Community College, Queens College, Queensborough Community College, and York College.
On Primary Election Day, Hostos Community College in The Bronx; Brooklyn’s Brooklyn College and Medgar Evers College; Manhattan’s Baruch College; CUNY Graduate Center; and Hunter College will serve as polling sites.
CUNY stands as a significant public university system with a long history dating back to 1847. It operates across five boroughs with seven community colleges and numerous senior colleges and graduate institutions serving approximately 240,000 students annually.
