The Columbia University women’s tennis team, ranked No. 61 nationally, will conclude its home schedule on Friday when it hosts Penn at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center, with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m. The Lions will then travel to Princeton for a Sunday match beginning at 1 p.m.
Friday’s contest against Penn is notable as it marks Senior Day for Columbia. The program will honor its only senior, Sophia Wang, in a pre-match ceremony. Wang recently secured the decisive point in a comeback win over Yale, helping maintain the team’s perfect home record this season.
Columbia currently holds an undefeated record of 10-0 at home and seeks to complete another unbeaten season at its new facility—a feat achieved three previous times since the 2006-07 campaign. In national rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Columbia is one of four Ivy League teams within the top-75, sitting just behind Princeton and Yale but ahead of Dartmouth.
Junior Gayathri Krishnan is approaching a career milestone; with two more dual wins this weekend she would reach her 75th victory. She enters play with an overall record of 73-23 and has posted strong results in both singles and dual matches throughout her career.
Penn arrives with a season record of 10-9 overall and stands at 1-2 in Ivy League competition. The Quakers are led by Lara Stojanovski with fourteen wins this year. In their most recent outings, they split matches against Dartmouth and Harvard. Historically, Penn leads Columbia in their series meetings but Columbia had won nine out of ten before dropping their last two encounters.
Princeton currently sits atop the Ivy League standings with a mark of fifteen wins against two losses (3-0 conference). Their roster includes No. 87 Alice Ferlito among nationally ranked singles players. When these teams last met on April 13, Sophia Wang clinched victory for Columbia; however, Princeton maintains an all-time advantage in head-to-head matchups.
The remainder of April features critical contests as Columbia looks to continue its strong form both at home and on the road.
