Columbia women’s tennis defeats Penn to remain undefeated in Ivy League play

The Columbia women’s tennis team defeated the University of Pennsylvania 4-0 on April 10 at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center, extending their win streak to eight and remaining undefeated in Ivy League play.

The victory brought Columbia’s conference record to 4-0 and their overall season record to 14-3. The Lions also completed an unbeaten home season, finishing with an 11-0 record at home for the first time since the 2023-24 season.

Before the match began, senior Sophia Wang was honored for her contributions as a three-year starter for Columbia. In doubles action, Gayathri Krishnan and Sabrina Lin came from behind to win their match against Lara Stojanovski and Esha Velaga, while Emily Baek and Wang secured a convincing win over Sasha Motlagh and Liza Tkachenko. The second doubles match featuring Michelle Li and Amber Yin was halted with a tied score.

In singles play, Michelle Li gave Columbia its second point by defeating Varsha Vedula in straight sets. Baek followed with another straight-set victory over Stojanovski. Yin clinched the overall team win with her own two-set triumph against Tkachenko. Other singles matches were left unfinished after Columbia secured victory.

Columbia will next face Princeton on April 12 at Princeton’s courts, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
