The Columbia women’s tennis team, ranked 52nd nationally, secured a 5-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) on Wednesday at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center. With this win, Columbia’s season record moves to 6-2 overall and remains unbeaten at home with a 4-0 mark.
Columbia began by capturing the doubles point. The pair of Emily Baek and Sophia Wang defeated FDU’s Valentina Silva and Katsiaryna Kostsina 6-0. Gayathri Krishnan and Sabrina Lin clinched the doubles point for Columbia with a 6-2 win over Anastasia Lim and Yelena Kim. The match between Amber Yin/Michelle Li (Columbia) and Sophia Fredericks-McKee/Ann Kato (FDU) was stopped while tied at 4-4.
In singles competition, Krishnan gave Columbia a 2-0 lead by beating Lim 6-2, 6-1. Margaret Hui extended her winning streak to five matches after defeating Silva 6-3, 6-2. Wang secured the match for Columbia with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fredericks-McKee. Lin followed with a straight-set victory against Kostsina, finishing 6-1, 6-4.
Matches involving Baek and Li were not completed but both were leading when play concluded.
Columbia will next face the Memphis Tigers in Tennessee on Saturday at 10 a.m.
