Columbia women’s rowing swept all five races against Notre Dame and Navy on Apr. 4 at Overpeck Park in Leonia, New Jersey, marking a strong start to its spring season.
The results highlight Columbia’s performance as the Varsity Eight finished nearly 14 seconds ahead of Notre Dame with a time of 7:10.17. The Second Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight also secured victories with times of 7:24.87 and 7:45.91, respectively. In addition, Columbia won both the Varsity Four (8:13.91) and Second Varsity Four (8:04.48) events.
Assistant coach Samantha Warren said, “Good racing overall. The conditions were slow, but the athletes came prepared to get off the line first and not let up. We are excited to get back to work this week. Looking ahead to next weekend, we have competitive racing back-to-back days starting with the Woodbury cup against Northeastern on Saturday.” Weather conditions included a building headwind between 12-14 mph and a slight head current.
Lineups for each event were provided in detail by Columbia Athletics, listing coxswains and rowers for each boat across all categories raced during the day.
Overpeck County Park is an 811-acre park located in Bergen County, New Jersey, surrounding Overpeck Creek—a tributary of the Hackensack River—with race viewing available from its western shore after a short walk from parking areas near Challenger Road.
Columbia will host Northeastern University and University of Rhode Island next Saturday at Overpeck Park as it continues its spring schedule.
