Hundreds of employees from Columbia University Irving Medical Center and members of the Washington Heights community attended the annual Ice Cream Social on July 15. The event, organized by the CUIMC Events Office, aimed to foster connections among attendees while providing a moment of relaxation. Over 6,000 frozen treats were distributed during the gathering at Haven Plaza.
In addition to enjoying ice cream, participants engaged in lawn games and listened to live music performed by a local jazz trio. The social also provided information about upcoming opportunities, including initiatives to support cancer research funding.
CUIMC leadership played an active role in the event. “James M. McKiernan, interim dean of VP&S,” and “Lou Baptista, chief well-being officer at CUIMC,” were present to distribute treats to attendees.
An information table was set up for Velocity’s YourWay model this year. This initiative allows participants to raise funds for cancer research and care programs through activities they choose.
