Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health will have Kathleen Sikkema as its interim dean starting July 1. Sikkema, the Stephen Smith Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociomedical Sciences, will take on this role temporarily.

Columbia medical students recently organized an inter-school health fair in Washington Heights. The event involved over 120 volunteers from various New York City medical schools and served more than 500 community members.

In another development, Quarraisha Abdool Karim, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society. This recognition is given by the world’s oldest scientific academy to distinguished scientists.

A new division under Richard J. Levy’s leadership has been established to serve as an academic and clinical home for a rapidly advancing subspecialty. This division aims to support the department’s ACGME-accredited PCTA fellowship.

The CUIMC Open Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10 at noon. Faculty and staff are invited to attend to hear from CUIMC leaders about campus initiatives and updates.
