Columbia University’s track and field teams delivered several wins and high placements across multiple competitions, according to an April 18 announcement.
The performances spanned premier events such as the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. SAC Invitational, Wake Forest Invitational, Mark Young Invitational, Virginia Challenge, and UConn Northeast Challenge. The results reflect the depth of talent within Columbia’s men’s and women’s squads as they prepare for upcoming major meets.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Caden Cutchall, Haydn Brotschi, Zach Willen, and Matthew Mazero won the men’s 4x400m relay with a time of 3:10.43. During the Mt. SAC Invitational, a relay team featuring Mazero, Brotschi, Willen, and Max Comfere set a school record in the 4x100m at 40.42 seconds while placing second; they also took third in the elite division of the 4x400m with a time of 3:09.82. Brotschi finished eighth in the individual 400m event with a time of 45.90 seconds.
The Wake Forest Invitational saw strong middle-distance performances from Marc Dabby (second place in men’s 800m), Nicholas Hayden (third), Justin Gottlieb (seventh), and Jacob Van Orden (fourth in invitational section). On the women’s side at Wake Forest, Lucy Henkel secured third place in the women’s 800m while Isabella Shertzer finished eighth; Matt Gatune led Columbia men in the men’s 1500m by finishing eighth.
At other meets over the weekend: Norina Khanzada won first place by clearing 1.65 meters at Mark Young Invitational; Galvin Holcombe was runner-up in men’s pole vault; Maya Helmen and Lily Cregan scored fifth- and sixth-place finishes respectively in women’s hammer throw; Anthony Colucci placed sixth on men’s side for hammer throw; Jada Mia Puryear (fourth) and Catalina Holliday (fifth) posted top-five discus throws.
Viktoria Mihaylova achieved an eighth-place finish in triple jump at Virginia Challenge while Daniela Quintero earned third place for women’s 1500 meters. At UConn Northeast Challenge Adam Jaros placed sixth overall in decathlon with notable first-place finish for his final event—the men’s 1500 meters.
Columbia track & field is scheduled to compete next at Penn Relays from April 23 to April 25.
