Columbia University announced on April 28 that its baseball, lightweight rowing, track and field, and women’s rowing teams will compete in a series of away games and events during the week of April 29 to May 3.

The upcoming competitions are important as several Columbia teams look to secure postseason berths or continue their recent success. The weekly preview highlights the significance of these matches for the Lions’ athletic programs.

The baseball team, with a record of 13-21-1 overall and 8-8-1 in Ivy League play, will finish its regular season with four Ivy League games on the road. They are set to make up a postponed game against Brown before traveling to Cornell for a three-game series. The team remains unbeaten in its last four contests (three wins and one tie) and needs three more wins to clinch the fourth seed in the Ivy League Tournament. Cole Fellows was named Ivy League Player of the Week after hitting .625 with six doubles, one home run, and seven runs batted in. Recent games included dramatic comebacks against Yale, including erasing a seven-run deficit for a walk-off win and playing to their first tie since 2007 due to darkness.

In lightweight rowing, Columbia will face Dartmouth in Fairlee, Vermont for the Subin Cup at Lake Morey. After winning nine consecutive Subin Cups over Dartmouth previously, Columbia has lost the last two meetings. The Subin Cup was established in honor of D. William Subin.

Columbia’s outdoor track and field program recently achieved seven top-10 finishes at the Penn Relays along with two school records: Edward Blaha set a new mark in the men’s 5,000 meters (13:43.48), while Jessica Thompson cleared four meters five centimeters in pole vaulting. Relay teams also posted strong results ahead of this weekend’s Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University.

For women’s rowing, Columbia heads to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester for Eastern Sprints after capturing its fourth straight Woodbury Cup victory over Northeastern earlier this month by more than sixteen seconds.
