Columbia University’s field hockey team secured a 3-2 victory over Hofstra on Sunday at the Columbia Field Hockey Complex. The win came during Alumni Day and was decided by a late penalty stroke goal.
The Lions took an early lead with goals from Sophia Abate in the first quarter and Delfina Gonzalez Lobo in the second, assisted by Nicole Campolattaro. Hofstra responded before halftime with a goal from Kelly Levengood, narrowing Columbia’s lead to 2-1.
In the fourth period, Hofstra tied the game when Teresa Karoff scored off a penalty corner, assisted by Kesia Richardson and Gwenn van Dijk. With just over three minutes remaining, Columbia applied sustained pressure that resulted in a penalty stroke opportunity. Jacinta Solari Etcheberry converted the attempt for her fifth goal of the season, securing the win for Columbia.
Columbia goalkeeper Margot Houle recorded four saves, while Hofstra’s Luci Hollister made two stops.
The Lions will next play Yale on Friday at 3 p.m. as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
