Columbia baseball will face Fordham on Wednesday, Apr. 7, at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium. The Lions aim to even the two-game series against the Rams, with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The game holds significance as Columbia (6-18, 4-5) seeks to improve its record and build momentum after a challenging start to the season. Fans can follow the action via live stats or watch live on ESPN+.
In their previous outing, Columbia opened a series against Penn with a dramatic comeback victory, overcoming a nine-run deficit in the final four innings to win 21-11. Jack Kail contributed a base-clearing double and Cole Fellows hit a grand slam that helped secure the win. Despite this strong performance, Columbia dropped both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against Penn by scores of 9-5 and 9-8.
This meeting marks the 71st between Columbia and Fordham, with Columbia holding a slight edge in the all-time series at 36-34. The Lions have won four of their last five games against Fordham but lost their most recent contest by one run after late home runs from Jack McWilliams and Anthony Temesvary.
Senior Cole Fellows returns after earning recognition as the Ivy League player with the highest batting average in conference play last season and continues his strong performance into this year with two home runs over the weekend series. Off the field, Fellows was named captain of last year’s Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team for his leadership efforts beyond baseball.
Jack Kail has also been an important contributor for Columbia this season as one of league’s toughest hitters to strike out—only six times in 89 at-bats—and is among national leaders in that category. Kail is hitting .315 with six doubles and is tied for team lead in runs batted in; he recently moved into tenth place on Columbia’s career RBI list.
Looking ahead, Columbia will resume Ivy League play this weekend by hosting Princeton for three games starting Saturday.
