Columbia baseball defeated Yale 6-4 on Apr. 24, opening a three-game series with a win at home. Cole Fellows and Hunter Snyder each collected four hits, while Thomas Santana pitched six innings to help secure the victory.
The result extends Columbia’s winning streak to three games, bringing their record to 11-21 overall and 6-8 in Ivy League play. Yale now stands at 23-11 overall and holds an 11-4 conference record.
Fellows and Jackson Brewer both hit home runs during the game. Jack Kail contributed by going one-for-three with an RBI, extending his streak of reaching base to eighteen games. Snyder also continued his ten-game hitting streak. Santana struck out seven batters, allowed two runs on six hits, improved his season record to four wins and three losses, and tied for seventh on Columbia’s all-time career wins list with fifteen victories. Payton Soske added five strikeouts as part of a staff total of twelve strikeouts that matched a season high.
Columbia scored first in the second inning after singles from Jimmy Chadwell and Snyder set up Owen Estabrook for an RBI groundout. In the third inning, Kail walked and later scored as part of a double steal before Brewer homered over right-center field to make it 4-0.
Yale responded in the fourth with a two-run home run by Davis Hanson but Columbia added more runs throughout the game to maintain its lead. The Lions held off several rallies from Yale in later innings; Soske struck out key batters in tight situations while Fellows’ seventh home run restored a three-run cushion late in the contest.
Evan Kleinhans closed out the ninth inning for Columbia by recording his second save of the season after entering with two runners aboard.
Fellows and Snyder became the first pair of Columbia players since April 19, 2023, to each collect four hits in one game.
Columbia will continue its series against Yale with a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium starting at 11:30 a.m., which will also feature Senior Day honors for seven team members.
