Columbia Athletics celebrated National Student-Athlete Day on April 6, hosting a series of events to recognize student-athletes for their achievements in academics and sports.
The annual observance aimed to honor the commitment and efforts of Columbia’s student-athletes. The day provided opportunities for relaxation, social connection, and community service among participants.
Activities included a Student-Athlete Hub set up in the Lisa Carnoy Lounge, where athletes gathered to relax, connect with peers, enjoy food, play games, and participate in other recreational activities. Later that evening, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) organized its annual dodge ball tournament at Levien Gymnasium. In addition to friendly competition, SAAC collected non-perishable food items from participants for donation to a local food bank.
Social media played a role in sharing highlights from the day’s celebrations. Both the Success Through Well-Being initiative and SAAC featured posts on Instagram showcasing moments from the events.
National Student-Athlete Day serves as an opportunity for Columbia Athletics to acknowledge students’ dedication both inside the classroom and during athletic competitions. The department’s ongoing recognition underscores its support for well-rounded student development.
