Columbia announces cross country and track & field schedules for upcoming seasons

Columbia University has released the upcoming schedules for its cross country and track & field programs. Daniel Ireland, Director of Cross Country/Track & Field, announced that the 2025 cross country season will start on Saturday, September 6 at the Fordham Fiasco in the Bronx.

The team will continue its early season at Van Cortlandt Park with the Iona Meet of Champions on Friday, September 12. After a break, Columbia will compete in two consecutive meets: the Paul Short Run on Friday, October 3 and the Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 4.

On Saturday, October 11, the Lions are set to participate in the METS Championships hosted by NJIT. The following weekend includes two events: the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park and later that day, the Princeton Invitational in New Jersey.

Columbia is scheduled to host this year’s Ivy League Heptagonal Championships (Heps) at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, October 31. “The biggest race of the season is set for 11 a.m. on Friday, October 31,” according to Columbia Athletics.

The NCAA Northeast Regionals will take place in Hopkinton, New Hampshire on Friday, November 14. The NCAA Championships follow one week later at the University of Missouri on Saturday, November 22.

For track & field athletes, competition begins with the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the Armory on December 5. Columbia will also host its annual Dr. Sander Scorcher meet at the Armory on January 23 and January 24.

The indoor schedule includes trips to Boston for both the BU Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener on December 6 and BU Valentine Invitational on February 14. The Ivy League Indoor Heps are planned for February 28 and March 1 at the Armory. For those who qualify, NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the University of Arkansas starting March 14.

Outdoor events begin with the Penn Challenge in Philadelphia on March 21. Throughout late March to early May, Columbia’s schedule features ten meets including Raleigh Relays (March 26-27), Sam Howell Invite (April 4), Virginia Challenge (April 17), and Penn Relays (April 23–25).

Princeton will host this year’s Ivy League Outdoor Heps beginning May 16. Qualifying athletes may advance to NCAA Outdoor Prelims in Lexington, Kentucky on May 28 and then potentially to NCAA Championships in Oregon starting June 11.
