Columbia heavyweight rowing alumnus Kyle Fram won the 2026 Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race with Cambridge University Boat Club on April 4, according to a university announcement.
The annual race is considered one of the most prestigious amateur sporting events in the world. It features crews from the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge competing on London’s River Thames.
Fram, who graduated from Columbia in 2020, rowed in the third seat for Cambridge during this year’s event. In recent years, he has worked in Singapore and developed his skills as a single sculler while racing across Asia and Oceania. During his time at Columbia from 2016 to 2019, Fram was regularly featured in key positions for the Varsity Eight crew. He competed at major collegiate regattas including EARC Sprints and IRA National Championships.
Before attending Columbia, Fram earned a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in 2016 and achieved podium finishes at Canadian Henley as a high school athlete.
The Boat Race itself dates back to 1829 for men’s crews and first included women’s crews in 1927. The competition covers more than four miles along London’s Championship Course between Putney and Mortlake. The event draws over 250,000 spectators along its banks each year and is watched by millions worldwide on television.
