Coler Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center was ranked as New York County’s largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility had 815 available beds, surpassing the New York County average by 466 beds at that time. An average of 501.2 residents received care there during the period.

CMS awarded Coler Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center an overall rating of 5 out of 5, exceeding the state average of 3.1 for nursing homes in New York.

Isabella Geriatric Center, Inc. was the second largest in the county for the quarter with 705 available beds, while Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center followed with 679 beds.

Coler Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center reported no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, three public nursing homes operated in New York County, New York.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the country’s population of older adults is on the rise as younger age groups decrease. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while the number under age 18 fell by 1.7%. The population of older adults has risen substantially over the last century, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A study from 2021 found nearly half of adults in this age group—about 28 million people—could need long-term services and supports, with projections showing more than one-third may ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
