Citizens for Free Enterprise has issued a statement criticizing supporters of state Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani for advocating government-funded benefits without detailing how these would be financed. The statement was posted on the social media platform X.
According to Citizens for Free Enterprise, Mamdani’s supporters, described as “Manhattan socialists,” frequently promote extensive government programs such as free transit and housing. The group contends that these proposals mislead voters into believing services can be provided at no cost, when in fact taxpayers bear the financial burden. They characterize this approach as fiscally irresponsible, emphasizing that it overlooks the economic repercussions of unchecked government spending.
The organization further said that promises of “free stuff” inevitably lead to higher taxes and increased pressure on working families. They argue that when advocates call for additional benefits without presenting financing plans, small businesses and middle-class households experience financial strain. By highlighting the absence of accountability in such proposals, Citizens for Free Enterprise reiterated their view that economic freedom is compromised when taxpayers are left to cover expenses.
The Free Press reported difficulties faced by Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani in defending the fiscal viability of his socialist proposals when questioned about funding specifics. According to the publication, Mamdani resorted to general remarks about taxing the wealthy but failed to provide detailed revenue projections or explanations on how those taxes would fully fund his initiatives. The Free Press concluded that his calculations “did not add up,” supporting critiques that his agenda relies more on rhetoric than financial practicality.
Citizens for Free Enterprise is an advocacy group dedicated to promoting free enterprise principles and exposing what it perceives as risks associated with government overreach. Through public statements and social media campaigns, the organization aims to highlight policies it believes could increase taxes, harm small businesses, and limit economic opportunities. It positions itself as a taxpayer watchdog committed to fostering fiscal responsibility and economic freedom.
