Far Rockaway, New York — As June marks Men’s Health Month, Dr. Jay Fenster, Chief of Gastroenterology at Episcopal Health Services (EHS), is encouraging men in the community to prioritize their health by scheduling a colonoscopy. Colorectal cancer ranks as the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States but remains highly preventable with early detection.

“Colonoscopy is the most effective screening modality that actually prevents cancer from developing,” stated Dr. Fenster. He added, “Our goal is to make the procedure as safe and comfortable as possible. We are excited about the use of state-of-the-art technology with artificial intelligence, to improve patient care.”

Dr. Fenster emphasized that screening should not be limited to those showing symptoms or having a family history of colorectal cancer. Instead, it is important for everyone, especially individuals aged 45 and older, to consider undergoing this procedure.

For those interested in taking proactive steps towards their health, EHS encourages contacting a primary care physician for a referral and scheduling a colonoscopy by calling 718-EHS-DOCS.

Episcopal Health Services Inc., based on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, New York, offers emergency and ambulatory care services to the diverse and underserved populations of Rockaways and Five Towns. The health system provides comprehensive preventive, diagnostic treatment, and rehabilitative services accessible to all individuals regardless of their financial situation.
