CCNY women’s basketball defeats York College to end losing streak

The City College of New York women’s basketball team ended a two-game losing streak with a 55–36 victory over York College on Wednesday evening in CUNY Athletic Conference play. With this win, CCNY’s record improves to 3–8 overall and 1–2 in conference games, while York remains without a win at 0–8 for the season and 0–3 in conference play.

CCNY trailed after the first quarter, 7–6, but took control in the second quarter by outscoring York 16–12. The Beavers dominated the third quarter, scoring 20 points and limiting York to just two points, which secured their lead for the remainder of the game.

Junior Ashley Colon led CCNY with a season-high 19 points on 6-of-25 shooting, including three three-pointers. She also contributed five rebounds and a season-high four steals. Freshman Blessings Joseph-Pascall added 13 points and eight assists, helping direct the team’s offense. Senior Joscelyn Ramos scored 10 points, while sophomore Ashley Subervi collected 14 rebounds to anchor the defense.

CCNY capitalized on fast-break opportunities and turnovers, recording 20 points in transition and converting 31 points off turnovers. The Beavers also outscored York in the paint by a margin of 30–20.

York struggled offensively throughout the game, shooting only 20.9% from the field and missing all five of their three-point attempts. Arta Gjeloshi and Amaniya Aiken each scored 12 points for York but were unable to close the gap against CCNY’s balanced performance.

Looking ahead, CCNY will host Lehman College on Friday, January 9 at home at 5:00pm.
