The City College of New York men’s soccer team started their CUNY Athletic Conference schedule with a 4–0 win against Medgar Evers on Wednesday at Randall’s Island.
With this result, CCNY now holds a 1-6-2 overall record and is 1–0 in conference play. The Beavers outshot the Cougars by a wide margin, registering 27 attempts to Medgar Evers’ two, with 18 of those on target.
CCNY opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when sophomore Josue Lema scored from a pass by freshman Mattia Gaspari. Three minutes later, freshman Bitoshoke Chakma added another goal, giving the Beavers a 2–0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, sophomore Yanis Hamdi Pacha increased the advantage to three goals in the 54th minute after receiving an assist from Lema. Sophomore Konstantinos Psomaras completed the scoring in the 87th minute.
Gaspari led CCNY with four shots. Chakma, Hamdi Pacha, Lema, and Psomaras each contributed one goal. On defense, senior goalkeeper Carlos Garcia made two saves for a shutout. The defensive line limited Medgar Evers to few chances during the match.
CCNY will face Baruch College next in league action on Saturday, October 4 at Columbia University.
